Color and Cabbage

It's been a lazy weekend-- my favorite kind! (With the exception of braving the city on St. Patrick's Day to bring our kitty to the vet, for her post-adoption check-up.)

More adventures in hand-dyeing! While I was going to stick to a semi-solid color, I couldn't resist getting a little crazy. However, one thing I discovered by accident, is that kitty litter box liners make AWESOME dye motes! (Is that what they're called?) I've been using plastic bags, but the liners are long enough to accommodate the whole length of the skein! I'm probably not the first to discover this, but I felt pretty clever!

So, over all I'm left with another colorway slightly out of my comfort zone, but I just love the combination of the yellows and purples!...Especially seeing how the red and blue dye adhere to the yarn at different rates. It creates a really pretty effect.

In other news...

On Friday, I got to fire up my crock pot! Instead of the usual Indian or Mexican cuisine…
Another video podcast, including a special guest host. ;)

After several months of finishing my super-sized Velynda Cardigan, I finally got around to reinforcing the neckline, using the Yarn Harlot's crochet reinforcement technique

As a knitter, I've crossed over to many-a-darkside. Two years ago, I swore I'd never knit a sock. Now, I can't seem to knit enough of them! I was also a devout DPNer. Now I'm a magic loop convert!

As the saying goes, "Don't knock it 'til you try it!"

Now, it seems I've really come full circle as a stereotypical "knitter" when me and the mister adopted a kitty last Sunday.

Yes, I am now a knitter... With a cat! Tell me, is the sky falling?

I've always been a dog person but an hour after playing with this gorgeous girl at the shelter, we were inseparable! I can't even begin to imagine who wouldn't want her.

Usually, I'm very wary around cats for fear of clawing, biting and/or general scheming (Heck, I have the childhood scars to prove it!) but she has yet to show that side of her, if it even exists!
She's like Jell-O in your arms, so lovable and walks around our apartment like a total glamour puss!... I could go on!

Good Company

Tuesday, I took the morning off to visit my dear nemesis... the DMV. (It's been NINE months since the wedding!!!-- I thought it was time to take care of the name-change sitch.) Knowing I was in for several hours of waiting on line(s), I took along my new bestie, the Hitchhiker Shawl!

{Backtrack: I've been on a serious sock-knitting kick and after finishing the Cakewalk 'Clove' socks for Dennis and (for sanity's sake) I decided it was time to switch gears. Enter: Hitchhiker by Martina Behm}

{Double Backtrack: Before I could even visit the DMV in the city, I had to visit the Social Security office in Brooklyn... how I made this all happen between the hours of 8am-11am is beyond me!}

To put it simply, I'm in love with this pattern. I'm generally not a fan of garter stitch shawls-- and avoid them like the plague for fear of boredom. But watching several knitters cast on and progress, the concept intrigued me.

So, with a brand new skein of Blue Moon Fiber Arts, …
